As part of the Country Dialogue in Brazil, Euroclima Program/GIZ with the support of the Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade and in collaboration with the National Confederation of Industry and WRI Brazil, implemented the Action 6 "Support for the structuring of mechanisms for an industrial strategy for sustainable development in Brazil" from August 2022 to December 2023. A significant outcome of this effort is the presentation of the report titled "Strategies for Decarbonizing: Cement, Steel Industries, and the Role of Forestry in Civil Construction."
The executive summary presents the main highlights of the report covering exemplary environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices of Brazilian companies in the steel and cement sectors, aligned with Science Based Targets (SBTi) initiative recommendations, providing insights into how the European Green New Deal can inspire Brazil's climate neutrality goals by 2050. Furthermore, it outlines strategic trajectories for reducing GHG emissions by analyzing their impacts on public policies, economic, social, and competitiveness factors, while presenting results for baseline and decarbonization scenarios for the Steel, Cement, Construction and Forestry sectors. This report has been formulated in consultation with the key sectors of industries and public institutions and has been viewed as a positive input for decarbonization policies.
